At least 82 people were killed and more than 120 others hospitalized after a massive gas explosion ripped through a coal mine in China late Friday, according to the Associated Press (AP).

A gas explosion at a coal mine in northern China has killed at least 82 people, according to state media, the country’s deadliest mining disaster in more than a decade.

The state broadcaster reported 247 people were on duty underground at the time of the explosion.
